The Dream List No.28 - Sarah Solis
Inside the soulful, quietly luxurious world of the Los Angeles designer redefining timeless interiors—one curated detail at a time.
Sarah Solis doesn’t just design homes—she conjures worlds. As the founder and principal of her eponymous design studio, she leads with a clear and quiet confidence, crafting spaces that feel soulful, grounded, and steeped in lived-in elegance. With a background in fine art, architecture, and fashion, her interiors are less about trends and more about storytelling: materials speak, textures evoke, and every object earns its place. Her work balances a reverence for history with a highly curated sense of modernity, creating rooms that feel as though they’ve always existed—and always will.
Sarah's studio, based in Los Angeles, has become synonymous with quiet luxury—homes that are deeply personal, richly layered, and effortlessly chic. She approaches each project as a deeply collaborative process, building relationships not just with clients but with artisans, craftspeople, and her own tight-knit team. No two Sarah Solis projects are alike, but they all share a certain soulfulness: plastered walls in calming neutrals, tactile natural materials like linen, stone, and wood, and an intentional use of negative space. Her interiors breathe.

We caught up with Sarah to talk about inspiration, Italian villas, and why you’ll never find a mountain of throw pillows in her projects again.
Space of your dreams?
"Imagine a private villa in the Italian countryside," Sarah begins, her voice conjuring something cinematic. "Not more than an hour’s drive from the Euro train or the ocean. You approach Reschio down a winding, cypress-lined driveway—classic, but pared back. The structure itself is simple, elegant, with gas lamps flickering in the evening."
Inside, the villa opens up to a series of rooms with soaring ceilings, millwork that whispers craftsmanship, and finishes that nod to centuries of life. "There’s a reverence for the past in the materials—plaster walls, reclaimed wood beams—but also a freshness in how it all comes together," she adds. Art and family photos hang with purpose. Lighting, always vintage, casts a soft glow. "And the garden," she says with a smile, "is the kind of place where everyone gathers naturally. It’s a space designed not for show, but for connection."
Favorite hotel?
"Reschio in Umbria, Italy," she says, eyes lighting up. "It’s this beautiful, historic estate turned hotel. Every detail is considered but never overdone. There’s a balance there—between history and design, comfort and elegance. The way they use materials—the linen, the stone, the muted palette—it’s everything I love. It’s the kind of place where you feel immediately at ease."
