THE DREAM LIST (21) // ALYSSA KAPITO
The designer on her dream destinations, the art and objects she treasures most, and the stories behind her creative process.
For over a decade, Alyssa Kapito has been redefining elegance in the world of interior design. With her celebrated design firm, the burgeoning Galerie Alyssa Kapito, and her recent debut monograph with Rizzoli, Kapito's influence is undeniable. Recognized as a six-time "Elle Decor A-List" honoree and an inductee to the AD100 in 2025, she is known for crafting refined, bespoke interiors and curating art and design that bridges the classic and contemporary. In this edition of The Dream List, Kapito shares her inspirations, favorite spaces, and cherished possessions in a candid conversation with Spaces of My Dreams.
When asked about her dream space, Kapito immediately transports us to the Petite Trianon in Versailles. “The moldings and doors are perfection. It was Marie Antoinette’s private residence, and I love how it feels redacted and carefree compared to the King’s Palace. It’s endlessly inspiring to me,” she says, reflecting on the subtle elegance of the iconic structure.
As a designer, Kapito is naturally drawn to remarkable furniture, with Jean Prouvé’s “demountable” standard chair topping her list of favorites. “It’s a rare find, especially in the dark maroon color, and it always feels fresh and beautiful to me,” she shares, demonstrating her deep appreciation for timeless craftsmanship.
