THE DREAM LIST (19) // WILLETT
On today’s edition of THE DREAM LIST we have spatial and furniture designer, Willett.
With a dynamic portfolio spanning architecture, furniture, and spatial design, Willett is a name synonymous with innovative and thoughtful design practices. Based in Los Angeles, Willett has carved a niche for himself by merging classical influences with a playful, contemporary edge. His creations often evoke a sense of both refinement and surprise, seamlessly blending modernism’s precision with moments of organic whimsy.
Willett's home—a labor of love, as he describes it—serves as his experimental canvas. Purchased from a flipper, the space has undergone a complete transformation under his hands. It now reflects his diverse influences, from turn-of-the-century French modernism to the bold aesthetic experiments of 1960s and 70s Italy. But his design ethos extends beyond his walls. Whether reimagining iconic furniture or drawing inspiration from the architectural splendor of spaces like the Salk Institute, Willett’s approach is deeply rooted in his love for materials, history, and culture.
In this exclusive interview, Willett shares his inspirations, personal design philosophy, and favorite spaces, offering us a glimpse into the mind of a designer who is as curious as he is creative.
More on my conversation with Willett below!
Space Of Your Dreams?
W: The Salk Institute. I love everything about it, the material choices, the scale… the fact that the sun sets along a linear fountain over the ocean. It is just perfection.
Favorite Chair?
W: The Curved Back Armchair by Gino Levi Montalcini and Giuseppe Pagano, circa 1928. I love it so much I made my own version of it.
Favorite Hotel?
W: Il Pellicano. Its timeless charm and impeccable design make it unforgettable.
