In conversation with the celebrated stylist on places he can't stop thinking about and the spaces that inspire him.
Colin King, celebrated as the go-to interiors stylist for the world’s leading brands and publications, has defined the essence of modern American design. As the founder of Colin King Studio, his practice extends beyond styling to encompass product design, creative direction, and installation. His background in dance has gifted him a profound awareness of balance and stillness, a sensibility that informs his mastery of visual storytelling. Whether curating forgotten corners of a home or crafting a collection, King elevates the everyday into moments of beauty and attention.

Space Of Your Dreams? Roberto Peregalli’s Riad in Tangier, Morocco. It reflects a serene blend of traditional Moroccan craftsmanship and timeless European elegance. The riad is filled with a muted, earthy color palette, with soft terracotta, deep blues, and natural textures like wood and stucco. Intricate zellige tilework and hand-carved plaster details showcase the artisanal heritage of Morocco, while vintage furnishings, antique mirrors, and textiles add a touch of classic refinement.
Favorite Chair? c1929 armchairs by Eyre de Lanux. These chairs embody both sophistication and restraint, typical of de Lanux's work, blending the opulence of the Art Deco era with a refined, minimalist approach to form. They're timeless pieces that exude both elegance and a sense of understated modernism.
Favorite Scent? Loewe Beetroot Candle. Its scent is earthy and vegetal, inspired by the natural aroma of beetroot, bringing a fresh, slightly sweet, and green fragrance to any space. The blend of this organic scent with Loewe's high-quality wax creates an olfactory experience that is both grounding and uplifting. The candle’s minimalist yet bold design makes it a statement piece in any room, while its natural scent evokes the essence of a garden or farmer’s market.
Favorite Hotel? Villa Mabrouka. Once the home of fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé, the villa has been lovingly restored, preserving its original charm while adding modern touches of luxury. What truly sets Villa Mabrouka apart is the intimate, personalized service and the sense of stepping into a private world of beauty and style. With only a handful of rooms, it feels exclusive and serene, offering guests a tailored experience where luxury meets authenticity. Combined with the stunning location overlooking the sea and the cultural richness of Tangier, Villa Mabrouka offers an unrivaled sense of magic, making it more than just a hotel but a living, breathing work of art.
